Another wake up call? No I didn't really need one I already knew that I was doing a terrible job of taking care of my weight. Unless taking care of it means continuing to add to it because that's pretty much been my relationship with weight for too long. Its even worse now because without the running I can't even make an effort to maintain while still eating and drinking to much. So here's the deal. I have to diet. By diet I mean specifically to control my caloric intake not follow a specific diet plan. The picture above was taken on new years day so that will hopefully be my peak and it will go down from there. Today is the 4th and so far I have done a good job, we'll see how long it lasts but it really needs to.
In the meantime I'm still waiting to hear where and when I can go see an orthopedic surgeon because the MRI showed that I will definitely need surgery. How much and what kind? TBD. That's why I'm so anxious to see a doctor because the sooner I get the surgery the sooner I can start running again. Running is important to me not just for my physical well being but for my psychological and emotional as well. In the meantime I have to be PATIENT! But I also have to be smart and not rush things.
2015 was another good year with the exception of the loss of my brother John who passed away in July.
I got to travel a lot and see friends and family in Missouri, Florida, Colorado, New Mexico and Southern California and of course I was able to mix races in with all of the trips. Travel now is temporarily on hold but will resume for sure when the doctor allows it. I want to get to Florida and meet my new grandson. I've already got tickets to the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. I want to get back to St. Louis to see the kids. I want to take another road trip maybe all the way to Florida this year. I want to spend some more time in New Mexico with friends this year. I want to travel to Colorado to visit and run with friends. I want to spend more time in southern California seeing friends. In other words I hope to travel a lot again and visit friends and family this year.
I ran 35 races in 2015 from 1 mile to half marathon and ran several of them with family. The highlight for me was running the MO Cowbell half in St. Charles, Missouri with my daughter and son-in-law. It was her first. I also got to do two "reunion" runs with friends in Colorado. We raced in Georgetown and the next weekend we did a race in Palmer Lake. It was a fun experience. My race total now since turning 60 stands at 174 and I hope to do more in 2016. I ran a total of 1032 miles; shortened by the knee injury. I haven't run since December 13th.
I enjoyed a lot of books this year covering a wide area of topics. I read 95 total with 41 novels and 51 nonfiction books. A lot of the nonfiction were memoirs and travel books continuing to feed my wanderlust with books when I can't physically go.
While this isn't a particularly long post it covers what's important to me, family, friends, running and racing, books and travel. I hope to continue all of these journey's in 2016 and blog about them through the end of this blog on my 68th birthday in July. And then who knows? Start a new blog or be done with blogging. Time will tell.
