Because I live in the San Joaquin Valley in Central California it means that all of California is pretty much within a days drive or may require a one night stay to go to a race and do some exploring of the state in the process. Before I left on my road trip to St. Louis I signed up to do one more Double Race in a place I have driven by a few times but have never visited. It is the small town of San Juan Bautista and after visiting I would definitely return to visit again.
I would be surprised if they can keep hosting a Double there though because the turnout was so low. If you don't want to make a day of it then it probably doesn't make sense to a lot of people to get up early to drive a fair distance to race. But if you are like I am and it is about the experience and not just the race then it is certainly worth the drive and the time out of your day.
As far as the race itself it was mostly flat if you ran the 5k-3k except for a long gradual uphill to the finish in both races. I guess if you did the 10k-5k there were more hills in the 10k.

It was cool running in such an historic location; one that was so important to the development of California and the Western United States.
