St. Louis Trip - Part 3 An Outstanding Run

Stacie and Tom have been talking about a trail that they have been training on for their long runs to prepare for the MO Cowbell Half that we are all doing together. After I had a couple of days running the rolling trail by the house I drove to the trailhead and it was everything they said and more.

If you've read my previous blogs you know my affinity for rivers, railroads and Route 66 and this trail had all of them including a small railroad that crossed the trail in a couple of places and a regular railroad that crossed over the trail. Additionally it ran right along the Meramec River and at one end of the trail you can look across the river right into Route 66 State Park.

Besides the river, railroad and Route 66 the run had everything I would ask for from a fall six mile run. It was cool but not cold, it was humid but not muggy, the leaves were falling and crackled under my feet when I ran. There had been rain the night before but the trail was was crushed gravel and had good drainage so it was soft but not muddy. There were deer, squirrels and all kinds of birds. As I said in the title, it was an outstanding run. The nice thing is that there are a lot of other trails that branch off from the trail I ran that I look forward to going back and running some day.
